Our Mission
The birth of the Beaver County Humane Society was one of the many rewarding outgrowths of World War II. The first "shelter" was started in the 1940s when Lois Glenn Wolfe began providing shelter to stray and injured animals in her New Brighton home. In 1947, Lois convinced a group of her friends that Beaver County needed a humane society. After much hard work, the Beaver County Humane Society received its corporate charter as a non-profit, tax-exempt, charitable organization in 1950. Mrs. Wolfe died on July 18, 2004, at the age of 92, but her vision still lives on in our mission to: • Protect all domestic animals by providing shelter and care and adoption services; • Investigate, correct or prosecute cruelty or abuse situations; • Provide educate programs; and • Promote the concepts of kindness and respect for all living creatures. Our Service to the Community • We provide shelter and care for homeless or stray animals • We refuse no animal we can physically handle • We find homes for these homeless animals • We reduce the number of homeless animals by controlling animal population through spaying and neutering • We prevent or correct cruelty to animals • We enforce laws for protection of animals • We operate a lost and found for owners and lost pets • We provide free humane educational programs and information to the public • We assist the County Treasurer with the sale of Pennsylvania state dog licenses • We try to assist anyone with an animal-related problem when feasible • We offer low-cost rabies clinics • We organize a yearly pet-friendly Pet Walk and activities • We operate a Thrift Shop and offer volunteer opportunities for the public
